Who would’ve guessed that from a simple idea to record a song and make a simple music video with our UFO (Uke4Kids Family Orchestra) we would be now getting ready to go and perform at Australia’s biggest ukulele festival in just a couple of weeks.
We made a video of our version of Riptide by Vance Joy and put it in as a last minute entry in the Koyama Kings competition run by Cairns Ukulele Festival and Koyama Ukuleles to find “Australia’s favourite ukulele group”. With a lot of votes and support from the internet community (people we knew and many we didn’t) we ended up receiving over 500 votes and winning the comp.
One of the prizes is 3 Koyama ukes – good ukes. The other is our group performing on one of the main stages at the Cairns Ukulele Festival (1-6 July) on the same bill as some of the biggest names in international ukulele music. So we’re pretty excited and grateful for the opportunity. Unfortunately the prize doesn’t come with plane tickets and accommodation (and we have to leave in a week) so we’re fundraising so those of us who need help to make it happen can be there.
We have a Pozible fundraising campaign happening on this very website. There are lots of great rewards for donations. It finishes on Friday 27th June at 4pm. Please click here and contribute if you can.
